"I'm Proud To Be An American"
by
Vijay Kumar

Dear Friends,

Before immigrating to America 29 years ago, as a foreign worker, I witnessed the fall of Iran into the totalitarian state it has become.  The political struggle that now exists in India, the land where I was born, began with some of the same compromises I see happening in the American congress.

Democrats seem to believe that multi-culturalism is more important than assimilation. The America I came to know and love has always welcomed immigrants and I believe that is still true today. But by opening our doors to those who come here illegally, by opening our doors to those who do not wish to learn our language, by opening our doors to people who want to make America in their image rather than become Americans, I believe that the liberals in office who allow such things are in violation of their oath to protect and defend this nation against all enemies foreign and domestic. And I believe it is the responsibility of a civilized nation to exercise their vote to remove such politicians from power or suffer the consequences of being defeated from within.

The challenge that America faces is not one of terror. Our problem is being too timid to stand up for who and what we are. The challenges our families face are not merely economic. Our problem is that we allow and rely upon trade practices and policies with non-democratic nations that actually hurt not only our wallets, but the very cause of freedom we say we are fighting for.

Free people don’t fly planes into buildings. Free people don’t blow up innocent men, women and children. And free democratic nations don’t produce terrorists who export their hate to other parts of the world. Barack Obama and the Democratic Party say they want change, but the changes they would allow to the very fabric of who we are as a nation don’t add up to a dollar’s worth of sense.

We need an America that understands that it is only as strong as the principles it holds dear - LIFE, LIBERTY, and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.  Some say they would be happier if America was another kind of country. I say show me that country that is better than America!  And then I would ask you, WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?

We are still, as Ronald Reagan so elegantly phrased, “that shining city on a hill”.  We are the bastion of hope and freedom that some come to experience; and others come to try and take away.

The hard times we face in our economy, with healthcare, taxes, energy, and loss of jobs cannot be addressed until we understand that depending on foreign oil for the stability of our economy is dangerous to our national security and only fuels the vehicle of our destruction.  We are uniquely and divinely blessed to be American. Black, white, yellow, brown, of every hue and shade in between, let us speak with ONE voice.  Let us speak with ONE language. Let us share our MANY thoughts, but in the end STAND as ONE America!

I ask you to join me in sending a message to the people of this country, and to the world, that America is not here to be bought.  America is not here to be invaded.  America is not here to be divided or balkanized.

"Give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses longing to be free..."  Those words mean so much to me. I found freedom here in America. Most of you were blessed to be born into it. I want an America that never takes
that for granted.

My passion for America can be found in the words of Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman, “Maybe I did well and maybe I led the battle but nobody ever said we were going to win this thing at any point in time.  Eternal vigilance is required and there have to be people who step up to the plate, who believe in liberty, and who are willing to fight for it."

So I am stepping up, and I invite each of you who read this to do this same!  Stand post.  And together we can share our love of liberty and remain vigilant to her cause.  There is yet much to do for the sake of our country and the future of our children in this world.

I ask that you join me as we turn the page and begin the next chapter in the blessed story of liberty that America represents.

Respectfully,

Vijay Kumar
